Isaiah 49:6-10

⁶ Indeed, he says, “It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel? I will also give you as a light to the nations, that you may be my salvation to the end of the earth.” ⁷ Yahweh, the Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One, says to him whom man despises, to him whom the nation abhors, to a servant of rulers: “Kings shall see and rise up; princes, and they shall worship; because of Yahweh who is faithful, even the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you.” ⁸ Yahweh says, “In an acceptable time I have answered you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you. I will preserve you, and give you for a covenant of the people, to raise up the land, to make them inherit the desolate heritage, ⁹ saying to those who are bound, ‘Come out!’; to those who are in darkness, ‘Show yourselves!’ “They shall feed along the paths, and their pasture shall be on all treeless heights. ¹⁰ They shall not hunger nor thirst; neither shall the heat nor sun strike them: for he who has mercy on them will lead them. He will guide them by springs of water.

Genesis 31:3-16

³ Yahweh said to Jacob, “Return to the land of your fathers, and to your relatives, and I will be with you.” ⁴ Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah to the field to his flock, ⁵ and said to them, “I see the expression on your father’s face, that it is not toward me as before; but the God of my father has been with me. ⁶ You know that I have served your father with all of my strength. ⁷ Your father has deceived me, and changed my wages ten times, but God didn’t allow him to hurt me. ⁸ If he said this, ‘The speckled will be your wages,’ then all the flock bore speckled. If he said this, ‘The streaked will be your wages,’ then all the flock bore streaked. ⁹ Thus God has taken away your father’s livestock, and given them to me. ¹⁰ During mating season, I lifted up my eyes, and saw in a dream, and behold, the male goats which leaped on the flock were streaked, speckled, and grizzled. ¹¹ The angel of God said to me in the dream, ‘Jacob,’ and I said, ‘Here I am.’ ¹² He said, ‘Now lift up your eyes, and behold, all the male goats which leap on the flock are streaked, speckled, and grizzled, for I have seen all that Laban does to you. ¹³ I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed a pillar, where you vowed a vow to me. Now arise, get out from this land, and return to the land of your birth.’” ¹⁴ Rachel and Leah answered him, “Is there yet any portion or inheritance for us in our father’s house? ¹⁵ Aren’t we considered as foreigners by him? For he has sold us, and has also used up our money. ¹⁶ For all the riches which God has taken away from our father, that is ours and our children’s. Now then, whatever God has said to you, do.”

Proverbs 21:3-21

³ To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to Yahweh than sacrifice. ⁴ A high look, and a proud heart, the lamp of the wicked, is sin. ⁵ The plans of the diligent surely lead to profit; and everyone who is hasty surely rushes to poverty. ⁶ Getting treasures by a lying tongue is a fleeting vapor for those who seek death. ⁷ The violence of the wicked will drive them away, because they refuse to do what is right. ⁸ The way of the guilty is devious, but the conduct of the innocent is upright. ⁹ It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than to share a house with a contentious woman. ¹⁰ The soul of the wicked desires evil; his neighbor finds no mercy in his eyes. ¹¹ When the mocker is punished, the simple gains wisdom. When the wise is instructed, he receives knowledge. ¹² The Righteous One considers the house of the wicked, and brings the wicked to ruin. ¹³ Whoever stops his ears at the cry of the poor, he will also cry out, but shall not be heard. ¹⁴ A gift in secret pacifies anger; and a bribe in the cloak, strong wrath. ¹⁵ It is joy to the righteous to do justice; but it is a destruction to the workers of iniquity. ¹⁶ The man who wanders out of the way of understanding shall rest in the assembly of the departed spirits. ¹⁷ He who loves pleasure shall be a poor man. He who loves wine and oil shall not be rich. ¹⁸ The wicked is a ransom for the righteous; the treacherous for the upright. ¹⁹ It is better to dwell in a desert land, than with a contentious and fretful woman. ²⁰ There is precious treasure and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man swallows it up. ²¹ He who follows after righteousness and kindness finds life, righteousness, and honor.
