17th International Festival of Orthodox Music ARCHAION KALLOS 2026

The Prague festival of Orthodox music Archaion Kallos returns again this autumn, offering visitors a wide spectrum of Eastern Christian music, from Byzantine chant to the works of postmodern composers.
Byzantine music from Thessaloniki will be performed by the celebrated Thessaloniki-born singer Petros Papaemanouil, alongside the sacred music of Alexander D. Kastalsky, whose work profoundly influenced the development of Russian choral sacred music, including that of Sergei Rachmaninoff and Pavel Chesnokov.
The festival will also present Alfred Schnittke's celebrated "Concerto for Choir," together with the world premiere of Jan R. Dřízal's "Two Sacred Songs."
An unconventional concert titled "Byzantium, Differently" will feature the Althaia Ensemble performing songs from the Greek islands and Asia Minor at the Zasekávák café.
To mark the 10th anniversary of the death of the renowned Czech choirmaster Miroslav Košler, the festival has prepared a commemorative concert performed by his students and longtime collaborators.
Visitors can also look forward to a unique liturgical service and a range of other engaging accompanying events.
